The Turkish cement industry is one of the largest in the world. With a production capacity of over 60 million tons, it is the second largest producer of cement in Europe, after Germany. The majority of the country's cement production takes place in the central Anatolian region, where there are large deposits of limestone, the main raw material used in the manufacture of cement. The first cement factory in Turkey was established in 1911 in Istanbul. However, it was not until the 1960s that the cement industry began to develop rapidly, with the construction of several large factories in different parts of the country. Today, there are more than 80 cement plants in Turkey, with a total production capacity of over 60 million tons. The Turkish cement industry is highly export-oriented, with around 80% of production being exported. The main markets for Turkish cement exports are Europe and North Africa.
