Laos is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Myanmar (formerly Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west. Laos is one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia. The economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, forestry, and fishing. Laos is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Laos is a mountainous, landlocked country in Southeast Asia, located east of Thailand, north of Cambodia and south of Vietnam. The Mekong River forms the western border with Thailand, while the Annamite Range forms the border with Vietnam to the east. Laos is one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia, with a per capita income of US$1,360 in 2018. The economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, forestry, and fishing, which account for about 38% of GDP, but less than 20% of the labor force. Industry and services contribute about 40% and 22% of GDP, respectively. Laos is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). The country has been working towards accession to the WTO since 1997. In September 2013, Laos chaired the ASEAN Summit in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
